213. Easter Egg Star

I'm really no hero when it comes to painting easter eggs - especially when I have something particular on mind like 'put a star on an egg'... But, anyway, here's one of this year's creations:

I used acrylic lacquer to paint this year's eggs. It isn't the easiest option but makes for amazingly shiny colours. :)

168. Snow Star

There's a lot of snow around here - by my standards, that is. ;) So I took the opportunity to make another (simple) snow star:

138. Snow Flake Star

Late again...

Well, I tried, it didn't work, I was frustrated - and forgot about it until I had just gone to bed. Since I refused to get up again, I had to finish it today, which (I think) makes it the first star that is actually late...

This one expresses my hope for at least one day of snow this winter. It did snow a little yesterday morning - at least about 10 meters above ground. Upon reaching the ground it all turned to water. That's why I decided to make my own snow out of paper.

105. Straw Star

Back from a wonderful (early) Christmas party with friends before we all leave for our seperate hometowns. So, a late night post again:

Here's today's star - a rather lame excuse for a straw star I'm afraid... I was a little - no, make that far too ambitious with this one considering the rather small amount of time I have on my hands at the moment.

97. Rainbow Star

Alright, here's yesterday's star with the light shining through:

It's really simple to make. You just take long rectangular pieces of transparent paper and fold all corners toward the middle - several times. I did it twice on the inner and three times on the outer end. 16 of them make a whole circle if you glue them like this.

85. Fröbelstern

Fröbelsterne - so called after their creator Friedrich Fröbel - are also known as 'German Stars' and are something like a must-do if you commit to making Christmas stars. I vaguely remember having made one or two many (many!) years ago, so it's high time to pick up some paper strips again. :)

 

Originally, I had intended to make a mobile out of several of them, but after having completed two, I've quite had my fill. This is an example where 'just any ordinary paper' will not do. First of all, cutting your own paper strips will most definitely not work (if you don't have a cutting machine) because they need to be perfectly straight and all of the exact same width. Secondly, the paper is far too soft and some strips may not be stiff enough in the end to slide beneath others yet again. (Gift ribbon would be a great material for this but I don't have any at the moment.)

As of that as well as a lack of energy (Tuesday again... ;)) I'm not posting the how-to here, but there are tons of instructions floating about the web, including videos - should be easy to find in case someone wants to take on this challenge.^^

49. Mandala

Shortly after I had started this entire project, I began to design a mandala. I completed it weeks ago, and today I coloured it in while meditating on a Chinese poem I had to learn for tomorrow's class.

It turned out to look a lot different from what I had expected... but okay, that's life... :)
